Did you ever wake up to birds singing and sunshine streaming through the window and feel that all is right with the world
only to discover that your dishwasher has decided to take an extended vacation, effectively turning YOU into the new dishwasher.......
your washing machine decided it wanted to walk across the laundry room floor to free itself from the attached pull out drawer that elevated it up to just the perfect height.......
and last but certainly not least the plumbing decided it wouldn't be outdone so it backed up onto the bathroom floor.......
Yep, this ALL happened on the same day!
So much for those singing birds.......
If only I had known beforehand I might have stayed in bed!
But sometimes, quite rarely I might add, thesehuge little disasters have a way of transforming into vehicles of change, change for the better!
Such was the case of the plumbing fiasco.
We were going to wait, out of budget constraints to redo our main bathroom. However someone decided it would be a good idea to put carpet in the bathroom, not knowing that someday the contents of the toilet would be decorating said carpet. So needless to say the 'project' got pushed up budget or no budget.
Here's a before shot of the bathroom pre flood era.....
Sorry, no shots of the carpet but you get the idea.
......and you guessed it, more wallpaper....the bane of my existence. I was so sick of peeling off wallpaper at this point that I just decided to paint over it with a lovely shade of grey, yep you heard me right, painted right over those posies.
And as you can see we put beadboard on the bottom part of the wall, love that beadboard, it covers a multitude of sins
.Of course we ripped up the old carpet, repaired the subfloor around the toilet, hmmm evidence that the same disaster had happened before? We put down vinyl planking that looks like wood (translated floodproof).
......we replaced the toilet.
And some of you might remember this little table from another post
We cut a hole out for the sink and removed the drawer, added wheels to the legs to give it more of an antique look plus adding a little height.
It's now the new old vanity. We reused the old sink and I'm still deciding on a faucet.
I hung a vintage mirror above it, still looking for a light for above the mirror.
I made some sweet little eyelet curtain tiers
Oh and I found the perfect spot for my stained glass.
going to sew a shower curtain, there's just a liner there now on a curved rod which I love.
(see that little dark part at the ceiling? I'll be doing a ceiling treatment next week so stay tuned.)
.
Added some accessories and called it done!
I think I hear those birds singing again.....
I'll be partying at...

Funny how we all have "those" days....days full of disasters that turn out to be blessings in the end. I am loving your new bathroom. It is the same color scheme I have picked out for mine...but that's far down on the list of things to accomplish..lol! Love the vanity and can't wait to see what you do with the ceiling! Have a blessed week....Vicky

I'm glad the birds are singing for you again but I think you had to do a lot more work to get to that point than your post showed! I know those fixes don't happen overnight. Do they? Please tell me they don't!
ReplyDeleteIt's very pretty now.
