I've been wanting to plank the area above my mantel for a long long time and when do I do it????? Why right smack in the middle of the Christmas season of course. I've always worked better under pressure.
I'll give you the after first.....
I'll give you the after first.....
Now here's the before....with no planking.
With my past planking projects I've bought 4x8 thin plywood and had Home Depot cut them lengthwise in 6 inch strips but this time I just bought the v groove planks from Lowes.
They went up pretty easily with my nail gun. Then I just framed it out and painted with Martha Stewart Glass of Milk paint.
I plan on adding some posts at on each side of the fireplace area below the mantel to bulk it up a bit. For some reason they wimped out this fireplace in the living room when they built it. I don't really understand why because the two other fireplaces in the bedrooms are way more elaborate. But no worries, I'm gonna fix her up.
Of course I couldn't wait to deck it all out with some Christmas decor, some lights, greenery, a few snowy white bulbs and some burlap bows all half off from Hobby Lobby.
My hubby gave me a 'well done' so I'm feeling good!

It looks wonderful, much better than the original format. The decorations are beautiful too.

ReplyDeleteLooks very pretty! You're good too. I understand working under pressure! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Looks fantastic! Those are the same planks that we used. Did you have trouble with the quality of the wood? Of the first 3 packs we bought ( which should have been all we needed) 7 boards were too botched to use. We ended up buying two more packs and doing a pretty good amount of filling. I'm happy we did it and yours is gorgeous too. The white planks make the best backdrop!
ReplyDeleteThe decorations are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteTeresa just beautiful. Love this. Good job.

Morning Teresa,
ReplyDeleteLovely Mantle. I really like it so
much more with the planking, you just
notice the mirror so much more and it
looks a lil more stately. Love all the pretty greenery you have one there too,
really looks beautiful.
You did a great job on the everything.
Blessings for a Wonderful Christmas
Season,
Nellie
What a difference it's made to the room. It's fabulous, you did a wonderful job. I can just see it in the summer too with a pretty boxwood wreath and some clear glass jars on the mantel.
