A Look Inside

Thanks for stopping by the other day and leaving comments. I was wondering that after such a long absence from blogging if anyone was still following. So I was so happy to see some familiar 'faces'. Most of you have only seen my home when we first bought it and it was empty. I thought it was time I showed you some of the inside. It has taken me forever to put my house together, I just haven't seemed to have the decorating bug at all. But I have managed to pull a few rooms together, lol, that's all I have a few, very few rooms. So here's a little look at the dining room.

That's the table Toby and I built back in 2013 I believe. I just put a new coat of stain on it as it was looking a bit drab. Over in the corner of the dining room is the old cabinet I rescued and painted white. The double doors lead out onto the porch and the bay window looks over the back yard.

The living room you can see above joins the dining room.

I use this table for a desk, it's really a sofa table but works fine for what I need as I don't have any room in the living room for it.

This used to be my desk but it fits better here for the coffee bar. This area gets a lot of traffic in the morning.

So that's my dining room, we rarely use the  farm table but I'll never give it up since it is one of the first things Toby and I made for our home.

Thanks again for stopping by, Toby goes for his MRI on the 26th of this month so pray for good news. Love y'all, take care.

Ways to Display Your China

I like to have my pretty china on display not hidden away.
So I'm always on the lookout for finding ways to display it, here are a few of the ways I've come up with.

This simple wood plate holder allows the plates to stand up and displays their pretty flowers. I bought this one but they would be easy to make. I'm going to feature a tutorial next week on how to make one for yourself!

I love cabinets with 'see through' doors. I redid this one using rabbit wire.

Placing dishes in a cloche makes them look special.

I like keeping my linen napkins on display in a wire basket

Plate holders allow you to stack a lot of plates together and they add to the decor.
What ways have you found to display your plates? I'd love to hear!

P.S. I'm back to sewing for the master bedroom, stay tuned for more reveals! Also I won a beautiful pillow cover in an awesome giveaway from 6 Wilson  !!! I'll be showing the pillow in my master reveal!

Cushions for the Bench

Overwhelmed.......do you ever feel like this?
That there are so many 'to do' projects in your home that you feel frozen.....not knowing where to start and if you do start you're soon pulled in another direction on another project?  That's been me.......until now! I am forcing myself to focus..... focus on one room at a time until it's done! And focusing on one project in that room until that is done.   So far it's working!   As you may know I'm currently in the process of focusing on re-doing my dining room and more specifically on the farmhouse table bench. If you followed my blog when I lived in the mobile home you might remember this picture.

Mr Magazine and I made the table from an old bed and heart pine planks and the bench from the same heart pine. When we moved into the 1920's house we had to shorten the table and the bench because the dining room was smaller.  Here's the farmhouse table and bench as it looks in that room.

You can't really see the bench in this pic but trust me it's there, and unfortunately it's hard. Yep I actually had a couple of complainers, family members sheesh, they said it was too hard on the rump. So kind person that I am I decided to give them some cush on the tush.

Ahhh much better. I found these at Pier 1 and they were like the perfect size YAY! I think the fabric cushions give this room the softness it needed.

I could have made some but I felt lazy this week. Plus they were on sale for half off!

They didn't come with any ties so to keep them in place I sewed two inch wide velcro on the bottom of the cushion and the receiving part I stapled on to the bench.  It worked out great! Don't worry about those staples, the bench already has holes and dents so I can take them out and it will look like the holes belong there.

So I'm considering that project done! On to the next!

Chalk Paint Cabinet and Making Progress in the Dining Room

Many of you have commented on the little cabinet I have in the dining room.

It was never quite finished and that's why I haven't posted about it. But hey, this is the year of 'Git-Er- Done' right? So I got her done! I got it at a flea market last year for next to nothing and it's been waiting around for a make over since then. The sides had peeling veneer so I covered them with beadboard. Here's the before with the unpainted bead board sides.

When I first got this cabinet the glass on the door was broken and held together with duct tape. So I just decided not to replace the glass but used rabbit wire instead, can you see the little wire squares? I stapled it to the inside door. I love how it turned out!

The shelves were also missing so I cut down some that I wasn't using.

I painted the outside and inside with ASCP in Coco. I really like this color because it's pretty neutral and goes with everything. The white pitchers and plates really stand out with the Coco paint.
I decided not to paint the little wood designs so I could keep some of the original look of the wood. I sprayed the door pull with oil rubbed bronze spray paint.

I wanted to keep the accessories simple on this cabinet and love the addition of boxwood wreaths to just about anything!

I also made some progress on the dining room and took some of your suggestions to heart. Many of you said I should cover the chandy chain with a cord cover. I don't know why I never thought of doing that, I guess I was just too overwhelmed with the whole thing. So that was an easy and cheap fix, I used onasburg and cut it 4 inches wide by twine the length of the chain. I turned down and sewed a hem at the top and bottom and the long sides so I had finished edges. Then I just got on a ladder wrapped it around the chain and sewed. I didn't want to ask Mr Magazine to take the chandy down so that's why I just sewed it in place. Once sewn I just scrunched it together! It took all of 15 min and looked SO much better after. Thanks to all of YOU!

I still need to attach that darn top thingy. But it made such a big difference in how the overall chandy looked. Here's a before, you can kind of see how it was.

And a few changes to the accessories to the dresser/sideboard.....

That adorable little rabbit was a gift from my cousin Cindy. It orginaly held a topiary but I managed to kill that in short order (ugh) so now it holds a.... well, a plastic plant, there I said it!

I keep extra dishes and things in this dresser.

So I still haven't resolved the chair dilemma but I have some thoughts on what I'm going to do so stay tuned. That's it for today peeps!
P.S. I've been playing around with PicMonkey photo editing hehe, so much fun!

Your Opinion Plz

I need some help with my dining room, is the chandy too gaudy? Also the chairs, should I paint them? So finally added the crystals to the chandy in the dining room but now I have a dilemma, should I get rid of the brass finish or keep it? I think I like it but I'm just not sure. I know that brass has been out and now it's supposedly back in even though I don't pay attention to trends when it comes to decorating. I just go with what I like but I dunno. It looks a bit too shiny to me, what would you do?  I was thinking I could add some black glazing to it to age it somewhat. What do you think?

The top part is not attached to the ceiling yet, that's what is hanging down on the chain.

I painted the matching one in the living room white and now wish I hadn't ugh!

Also what do you think about the chairs in the dining room, there's way too much brown if you ask me and I'm thinking about painting them a light color, also I'll be padding the seats with foam and fabric. What color do you think I should go with? I'm stumped.

Something's just not right. It just seems so blah in there......Any and all opinions are welcome.
Thanks for your input!
