The Sad Little Table

When I was exploring our attic a few weeks ago I ran across a sad little table tucked away in a corner. I knew instantly that I could help it me happy again.
After painting with ASCP here is her debut.

Photo bombed by Semper!

Here's what it looked like before lipstick.

I removed the peeling veneer and patched some dented areas.

It resides in the hallway now, glad to finally be out of the attic!

It's the first time I've used the French Linen ASCP, the legs are painted with Old White. Not sure yet if I'm going to use dark wax, what do you think yes or no?

I'll finish with a pic of my sweet little dog, Semper, with his serious face on. That look means, "I gotta go out and pee Mom". Ok, come on Semp, let's go!

Chalk Paint Table

This is another piece we inherited from my husbands parents. It was in fantastic shape for being 50+ years old, way better shape than me!

But it's too dark for my liking so I lightened it up with coco chalk paint and a wash of old white.

This is what it looks like now.

See that gold sofa in the background (how could you miss it right? lol) I'm going to paint it with chalk paint until I can get it recovered. Have any of you painted fabric with chalk paint? If so how did it turn out and any tips you want to share?

I added this little applique to give some interest to the table, I'm an applique freak, I add 'em to everything!

No Mirror? No Problem

I recently found a cute little antique vanity that was missing a mirror. That was okay with me because I had other plans for it. Here it is with the missing mirror.
[Warning, lots of pics ahead]

It is replacing the piece below which I felt was't right for this area.
It went to another area of the house, dang, it seems like I change furniture more often than underwear, ahem, just kidding.

Originally the mirror frame area was much taller, about twice as high, sorry no before pic. In the next picture you can see where we cut it down right above the side curve areas. DH also had to add the little curved part that was missing on the right side, he's so talented :) I'll be touching all of that up so hopefully it won't show.

This piece is in my dining room so I thought revising the frame part would make it look less like a vanity and more like, well.....a cute little piece of furniture.
So anyway, I had my DH cut a piece of beadboard to fit inside where the mirror would normally go and I added a pretty basket of flowers applique.

I painted it all with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Linen.

I added some glazing to give definition to the basket of flowers but it just looked muddied instead, so I just went with the all linen look.

I added these pretty glass knobs from Hobby Lobby.

Then I just duct taped the insert in place (dang I love that stuff)  and here's the final look.

I love putting appliques on furniture, you can make it 'all yours' by doing that.

This little iron birdie is waiting for the 'bookworm' I think.
I love these two little birdies, the basket is wire and so cute.

Yep, I think I like it. This little vanity repurpose also has wheels, you can kind of see the one on the back leg.
The coffee filter wreath which I made a year or so ago will get a special treatment too. So stay tuned for that.

My wonderful Eulalie (Miss Mustard Seed named her's Eulalie so I'm goin' with it)  Cow Picture (God Bless Cindy for her wonderful talent) got a new home on a larger wall and that wall is getting some love too next week. Eulalie was just too grand to be squeezed onto this small wall, she said she needed to spread out a bit!

What I'm Up To....

I've taken a few days to putter around the house and scheming about what piece of furniture is either going to be reupholstered, cut down to size, re purposed or painted next. nothing is safe around here! So out of the corner of my eye I spied this......by the way this mirror is no longer hanging in this spot, Eulalie the Cow now resides in the place of honor! So sad little mirror needs some lovin' so she's not feeling neglected.
Yes, my pretty, you have been long overdue for a makeover.
I don't think you've seen a stitch of make-up since well, since forever!
Your pretty little details are just not living up to their full potential, so we need to fix that!

And here's what I pulled out of the make up bag to make you look like a new woman!

A little bit of blush  chalk paint......
Some wrinkle reducer producer, just trust me.
A little dab of that
And a touch of this

Just wait til you look in the mirror, wait, can mirrors look into mirrors? Oh well, like they say on Biggest Loser, "next time you see me America, I'm gonna be one hot momma!"

Til Then.....Teresa

A Bench for the Farmhouse Table

If you've been following along you know my hubs and I made a farmhouse table recently. I had bought six chairs already at GW but still needed some more seating. We wanted to seat 10 at the table. So the solution was to build a bench. We still had one heart pine board left so we were able to use it for the bench. Here's the result.

The chairs will be getting white seat covers.

The ends have too much white showing in my opinion so I'll be adding little furniture appliques in the future.

Little Side Board and Some More Changes

I finally painted my flea market find side board with Annie Sloan Old White.
The bottom seemed like it was calling for some sort of applique. The below pic is before I painted it.
I thought this keyhole applique looked cute.
Here's the inside before.
I lined it with some wallpaper samples that I had, just sort did a patchwork of patterns..
Before I did anything......
And after......
It's a little hard to see the difference especially the applique but trust me it's there! The glass pulls make it look so much prettier. I'm thinking of making a new runner for the top instead of the burlap, too much brown for my liking.

Added a little boxwood wreath to this lamp.
The table has a few little changes also.......
It is now sporting a burlap pumpkin and a sweet little turkey tureen I picked up for $2, can you believe that???
So things are taking shape in the dining room, there is just one more big item I'm working on in here, the hutch (you can see part of the hutch in the previous pic, medium oak brown wood which I'm so over) yep I'll be painting that with Miss Mustard Seed's milk paint, can't wait to show you! Oh and those med oak brown chairs? they're going bye bye too.
