Tiered Trays, How I Decorate With Them

I really like tiered trays, they provide organization and add vertical space to display the things you love.

Here are a few ways that I've used tiered trays in our home.

I really love having lots of plants around, especially inside when it's cold and dreary outside.

The tiered trays give me extra room for more plants in a smaller space, win win.

I like adding little decor items like this sweet wooden sign.

The space between each level is spacious enough to give all the plants plenty of light and room to grow.

At the coffee bar space is at a minimum so having a tiered tray really helps organize all the things we need like, coffee pods, creamer, sugar etc.

This sweet angel lives on a single tier tray in our master bedroom, I really like the added height it brings.

I have risers or trays under all of my lamps, they just look better in my opinion, here's one in our living room area on an iron decorative tray.

I would love to hear if you use tiered trays in your home and how you use them. Thanks for stopping by.....Hope everyone is having a great start to the New Year!

A Little Room Off My Kitchen and Attic Treasures

I have a little room off of the kitchen which has been neglected since I moved in to this 1920's farmhouse. It needs new flooring but I love the wood walls and decided it was time to do something in there.
Here's one corner of the room.

I bought that little chair at an estate sale for $15 five years ago, it came without a seat and I never got around to fixing it. I stuck an old pottery piece filled with old and new yard sticks.

The dish rack was a flea market find. The little blue dishes were found in my father in laws attic. Here's a close up of them. The wood herb boxes are from Antique Farmhouse, there are four to the set and the other two are in the kitchen.
Here's a close up of the pretty blue plates.

I love the little bird, so pretty.

Here's a shot of the ceiling, I so love the wood bead board.

In the other corner I put this little blue table that I painted a few years ago.

It's great storage for cookbooks.

Do you recognize this adorable cow sign? It's from the wonderfully talented
 Kris at Junk Chic Cottage
She was redoing her kitchen and I told her how much I admired it and she GAVE it to me!! Such a sweetie, thanks again Kris. It's now hanging the the little room off the kitchen.

In another corner is my antique Pot Belly Cabinet. The drawers hold  kitchen towels in one side and doggie treats in the other.

While I was in the attic finding the pretty blue bird plates look what else I found.......

A gorgeous old chandelier, but wait......

There wasn't just one beautiful old chandelier, there was TWO!!!
They are so heavy, I just can't believe they were up there the whole time. I don't think they were ever hung up. My father in law traveled all over the world in the Air Force so I have no idea where he got them, but I really love them.

All the crystals are wrapped up and secured, I'll leave them that way til I figure out where I'm going to hang the chandeliers.

Who knows what other treasures lurk up there?

Your Opinion Plz

I need some help with my dining room, is the chandy too gaudy? Also the chairs, should I paint them? So finally added the crystals to the chandy in the dining room but now I have a dilemma, should I get rid of the brass finish or keep it? I think I like it but I'm just not sure. I know that brass has been out and now it's supposedly back in even though I don't pay attention to trends when it comes to decorating. I just go with what I like but I dunno. It looks a bit too shiny to me, what would you do?  I was thinking I could add some black glazing to it to age it somewhat. What do you think?

The top part is not attached to the ceiling yet, that's what is hanging down on the chain.

I painted the matching one in the living room white and now wish I hadn't ugh!

Also what do you think about the chairs in the dining room, there's way too much brown if you ask me and I'm thinking about painting them a light color, also I'll be padding the seats with foam and fabric. What color do you think I should go with? I'm stumped.

Something's just not right. It just seems so blah in there......Any and all opinions are welcome.
Thanks for your input!

Wood Plank Ceiling in the Kitchen

So I got all the wallpaper down from the kitchen walls and decided to tackle the ceiling. My father in law had put a drop ceiling in the kitchen and I wasn't really fond of it so we tore that down. It exposed a really peeling wallpaper ceiling hence the reason for the drop ceiling. I pondered a couple of ways to go and finally decided on the cheapest and easiest. A wood plank ceiling, yep way cheap and easy and it fit the style of the house.
We pulled down some of the hanging paper as we went but really the rest isn't going to show, no one will ever know that there is ugly green peeling paper behind the wood planks. I realized once I put up a couple of planks that I should have painted them BEFORE putting them up, duh.
So my daughter Kim and I laid a bunch of them on sawhorses and plywood and went to town.
I used 1/4" 4'x8' wood and had Home Depot cut it to 6 inches each lengthwise. We sanded lightly around the edges and painted them with Polar Bear by Behr in semigloss enamel.
It took two of us to do the job both on ladders as this is a 10 foot ceiling. We placed a nickel between the planks to space them evenly. A nail gun was a life saver and it all went pretty quickly. See that old wagon wheel lamp? I think everybody had one of those at one time or another. I'll be replacing it with this...

This is how far we got today, need more wood and some nails for the nail gun but we should be able to finish it by tomorrow. The project for a ceiling 11 feet by 11 feet, plus one little area by the door is about 130 sq ft. It will end up costing $130 and that includes the paint. I think that's pretty good considering most of the other options were going to run $300 and up. I'm exhausted but it feels good to accomplish something, so I'm going to sleep good tonight for sure! But before I go here's a few more kitchen before pics

I think we've come a long way.

My Bucket Faucet Farmhouse Light

As ya'll know I've been attempting to create a cottage farmhouse look starting with my dining room, you can see the beginnings here. I wanted something unique and rustic for a light over my table . So get yourself a couple of buckets, some metal piping, throw in some faucet handles and voila you have yourself a rustic one of a kind light fixture. Previously I had a itsy bitsy globe light over the table that made no statement at all, well it DID make a statement but it wasn't a good one.  Here's the new light.

All it needs is running water for my plants hehe.  It is just the rustic touch I needed in this room.. I think it's  perfect don't you?

I'm still working on getting that mirror over the mantel. I'll be joining the following parties.....
