Okay some of you may remember this post on recovering my blah shades for my goodwill 6$ chandy.
You can see they were pretty boring and just didn't do anything for the light fixture.I lived with them for a couple of weeks before deciding to add some color.
So onto phase two, added some fabric with a little bit of accent trim. Better, but still not there yet.
Now here we go, this was the look I was after, cheery red and white with a flirty little pleated skirt. See the difference in the shade with the pleated trim versus the plain fabric shade? I think it adds so much personality. Three shades down and three to go.
To add trim to your shade it's as easy as 123. I have a pleater attachment for my sewing machine but decided to just eyeball it and fold each pleat as I sewed it in place. It actually went pretty fast. Cut your strips, I cut mine 3" then fold in half lengthwise and iron. Then just started hand pleating and sew in place. Once pleated just hot glue it to your shade and add the white trim (hot glued also). So what do you think? Oh and yes that is moleskin on the plate of my sewing machine, I use it as a guide when I'm quilting. It works great because you can build it up and it makes a bumper for your fabric to butt against, perfect slight 1/4 inch!
